Welcome! Samuels Elementary is a STEAM school in Southeast Denver. Our rigorous academic programming at Samuels is centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). In addition, we dedicate instructional time on social-emotional learning (SEL) with Second Step, an evidenced-based SEL curriculum. Our school psychologist, school-based therapist, school nurse and Wellness Coordinator are onsite every day to support this work. Our Wellness Center also serves as a place for students to relax and engage in healthy conversations for conflict resolution.
We love the outdoors at Samuels! Our large community garden participates in the Garden To Cafeteria program, and our new outdoor learning space provides additional opportunities for students to learn about nature and the environment. There are also numerous enrichment opportunities and clubs offered through our afterschool program in partnership with the YMCA.
We are so proud of our positive spirit and morale at Samuels! Students, staff and parents all call ourselves SAMILY. Our FLY values–Being a Friend; Being a Learner; and You Own It–are deeply ingrained in our culture and help to positively reinforce good behavior. Our school community at Samuels is incredibly diverse, with over 40 languages spoken. Multiculturalism is celebrated throughout the year. Parent Teacher Home Visits help maintain strong relationships with families. Samuels is deeply rooted in the neighborhood – many community members who do not have children enrolled at the school still enjoy being involved as volunteers or as tutors with Reading Partners.
